Forms a small, open but tightly bunched, 6″ rosette that is fan-shaped rather than round. Dark green leaves and small compact hearts that blanch to an appetizing yellow color. Crisp and sweet. Butter Crunch lettuce is a type of Bibb or Boston lettuce.
Butter Crunch can be harvest as a ‘cut and come again’ green like most lettuces. This allows you to begin harvesting 21 days after planting and come back again throughout the season. To do this, simply remove the lowest leaves of the plant as they come into maturity.
Buttercrunch lettuce is a lettuce that forms a loose head. Its leaves grow from the centre, so picking leaves from the outside of the plant allows these centre leaves to grow larger. Start picking outer leaves on demand when they are 2 to 3 inches long, or wait until they are fully grown and large enough to eat.
Butter lettuce is the most nutritious of the lettuces. The leaves are higher in folate, iron, and potassium than iceberg or leaf lettuces.
