Meredith’s Food for Thought… Spring is Here!

Happy Spring Friends,

The season of rebirth and renewal has arrived; the Vernal Equinox. She’s tiptoeing barefoot thru tender blades of green grass; her warm sunshiny rays are awakening the newly budded trees, and her bounty can be seen in the jonquils and crocus as they emerge from their sleepy hibernation. Mother Nature is letting us know that Spring is here, and many are ready to begin their Spring Tower Garden… Let’s start growing together.

Spring temperatures are warming up, so let’s talk about starting the season with a clean, fresh tower. If your tower needs a “Spring Cleaning,” use Citric Acid. It’s easy; here’s how to do it:

  • Disassemble your tower.
  • Fill your basin with clean water.
  • Add 2 cups of Citric Acid.
  • Place the disassembled parts into the basin.
  • Let soak for a couple of hours.
  • Mineral build-up and algae should easily wash away.
  • Now reassemble your tower, and let the fun begin!

Take note of how many seedlings you will need; if you have the Home tower, you will need 32 seedlings; if you have the Flex tower, you will need 20 seedlings. Did you know we now offer Growers Guild Seedling Bundles? These bundles are a quick and easy way to order a wide variety of seedlings and save a little money too!

We grow lettuce, greens, microgreens, and herbs year-round in the greenhouse. In addition to our year-round seedlings, we offer seasonal vegetables and fruits and flowers. This Spring, we are growing three new flowers; Ivory Princess Calendula, Teddy Bear Mini Sunflowers, and Zahara Zinnias. All three will add a delightful splash of Spring color and make amazing companion plants. Please visit our webpage often, as our weekly seedling inventory can vary.

With so many seedlings to choose from, the hard part begins…narrowing down to the perfect palate of seedlings. You may ask how to do this. My advice is to choose seedlings that make your heart sing!!! If you want to kick your salad up, add Arugula. If you want to step out from traditional Green Italian Basil, go for royalty and choose Purple Italian Basil. Try growing Chamomile for the perfect cup of tea; her tiny white flowers and yellow centers will surely delight you. Need a little spicy in your life? Garnish your dish with our Confetti Radish Microgreens (they will tickle your tongue with just the right bite, you won’t be disappointed). Never grown a Sungold Cherry Tomato? Go for it; you’ll love every sweet and bright bite.

Wishing you a beautiful day,

Meredith
