Fall Preview Highlight: Hosta

Patriot Hosta at Mountain Valley Farms Cumming GA

To follow-up on last week’s “Hey, it’s Sadie” blog post, we want to highlight some of our popular hosta plants currently in production. The Hosta ‘Patriot’ currently pictured (above) is one of the few hostas that can really take the heat! With it’s dark green leaves and wide white and lavender flowers, it’s a great transitional plant from summer to fall. Looped in as one of the “tough plants” it can handle transitional weather and must be cared for in moist, fertile and well-drained soil!

Sum N Substance Hosta at Mountain Valley Farms Cumming GA

The Hosta ‘Sum N Substance’ is a large grower with large chartreuse leaves and lavender flowers. With an August bloom time, this hosta is blooming as summer ends and fall begins. The hosta is known to attract hummingbirds and is a low maintenance plant.

Hosta Sieboldiana Elegans Cumming GA

The Hosta sieboldiana ‘Elegans’ is a large blue leafed hosta that has heavily textured leaves. White flowers bloom in early spring which is a nice contrast to the blue leaf. Problem area avoided with slugs because even though they love hostas, this one is usually spared!
